Vacation is the best time to spend with your family and make the most memories. If you were following my #SampsonVacation2015 tag you will find some pictures there.
This was a great National Event this time. Everything ran smoothly. People were very nice and grateful that all the racers there were very nice about meeting fans and keeping business strictly business. Everything at this Dragway is family friendly. New comers and fans a like. Your ticket gets you to watch the race and also go into the pits and see the drivers. Which is totally awesome!!!
We did have on little incident on Friday or Saturday. We had some random lady that paid general admission and “couldn’t see” from where she was sitting so she wanted us to move our spots back from the fence. I don’t think so. I was not moving a thing unless told by and official person running the event. But anyway moving on…..
Here is a picture of where we were:
I am sure you have seen this picture but I will explain each part a little. This road right over the fence is the old return road. Where drivers would come down to return to the pit area to work on there cars and make adjustments. Then there is the grass area and a cement wall that extents the length of the track to keep cars and spectators as safe as possible. This a two lane track and people are racing 1000 feet to win. Of course they are going almost 300 mph or better down the track. Then there is Prostock cars which go the quarter mile and that still is a short distance 0 to almost 300 mph in about 6 seconds or less is pretty awesome. Friday night there was track record after track record. Cool conditions and a slightly warm track makes for good grip for Top Fuel and Prostock cars.
From “The Hill” you can see the whole track. Here is an example:
I am not sure by this picture might not be that great but there is a red roofed easy up and that is us. We call it “The Red Roof Inn”. You can see us on ESPN2 If you watched the New England Nationals Drag Race. We had a blast. All the same people for all three years. We reserve in January and get the same spot. I love being track side. For three years now we have had the best weather weekends and I hope there is more to come. Everyone that stays or comes to see us use to race together. My dad’s friends. Old race stories are funny and tragic. We never forget the ones who have past away.
Sunday is Race Day! We on a track walk. Which my father and his friend Rick go on every morning while there. Early. I went this year once on Saturday and it was interesting to see the end of the track. To see what was there if the driver couldn’t stop. Anyway, the race announcer, announces all the drivers in their qualifying order for the day (last to first). Here are some pictures I took (not in qualifying order):
With New England Dragway there are several different owners of the track. These people are call stock holders. Most still go to New England Dragway and most do not. This is the only track that is owned 158 different people in America. One of the drivers had said “This is a track that is like Fenway Park, it needs to stay the same and not be changed. We have plenty of fancy raceways that we don’t need this one to change.” I thought that was very nice of him to say and I give him props for saying it.
At the end of the day you have your family and friends by your side. I know who my true friends are and we stick together. I hope you enjoyed this Blog. I, Thank you for letting me get the opportunity to share something I am interested in; something that I love and hope you give it a chance. It is a very intense sport. Check it out! They are in Bristol this weekend coming up. Have fun like I did to everyone going to the Bristol Race. Good Luck to the drivers! 🙂
Here are some more goofy and relaxing after race day photos. Also I have some in my Social Media too. I will leave those in a Link below.
