July 20th: Morning Glories

Good Morning Everyone!

Hope you all are having a great day so far. I am here with the kitty in front of the fan and doing laundry before work. She is trying to keep cool as well. These past couple of days have been hot. I am not complaining after the winter we had was just crazy. Too long.

Well let’s get to it! Morning Glories, are a vine flower that grows and spread very quickly if you are not careful. Look:

I’m not sure if you can see the leaves, but they are a heart shape. So when you see those you know that it is a Morning Glory vine coming up.

Morning Glories need full sun, water, and any type of soil to grow in. As long as, it is well drained.

Growing season: Summer and Fall

Morning Glories are a romantic tendrils that lend an old-fashioned charm.

Morning Glory Vines:

Morning Glory vines can be trained to climb a trellis and can go over and arch way. They will grow quickly in one season up to 10 to 15 feet. They self seed. Which means they drop seeds when a flower dries or if it opens and will release the seed on the ground.

If you have a lot of ground to cover in the back yard or do something fun with the ground they will cover the ground quiet quickly. And if you want to cover and unsightly fence it is good for that too. Here is an example:

Morning Glories can be annual and perennial. We have perennial even though I don’t think we are suppose to with the frost. We don’t plant any seeds and we still get them. The bloom time is early summer to the first frost. Which around here could be like November some time.

Morning Glories are very fragrant which is why you see butterflies and humming birds around them all the time. If you don’t want deer in your yard; I suggest not planting them. Only if you want to see this out your window every morning:

Could be staring in the window at you.

Very low maintenance, water if there is a dry period (like this week if it is as hot as this then they will need water for sure).

Tip: If is hot like this in the summer. I suggest water at night because the water from the plants will not evaporate as fast as if it were during the day with the sun on it all the time. This ia just so you know they have drank water instead of the sun taking it. I water my vegetables, lawn, and plants at night to make sure they have the proper water they need.

Two colors that are most popular are Heavenly Blue and Scarlett O’Hara. They are both beautiful.

Fun Fact:

There is a Comic Book series that is called Morning Glory. Be careful when looking up curtain things you never know what you may discover.

I hope everyone enjoyed the blog today. I know this one is about a flower but I like to do these. I learn a little about some flowers. Next Blog may be about my favorites this month or just some of my favorite things to read. Like Summer reading. Remember that in school?

Have a good day everyone! Enjoy the beautiful weather. Don’t forget to stop and smell the flowers!
